about

This track opens with an audio interview that I had with my mother. I asked her the question, "What would your life be like if you born (Audio kicks in) a boy?"She immediately had a response demonstrating that her life would have been so drastically different. She would have gotten a better/more education. She even says that her view of the world would have been bigger.

The song hits a constant looped melody. The lyrics came to me when writing about a trip I took to the beach with a girl I was seeing. The last two lines are a paradox. "I won't posses you but I want your time, I don't need a guarantee but someone to rely on."

LYRICS

"...A boy? Do you think there would have been more opportunities, do you think uh...

...If I grew up a boy my dad would have been ecstatic. Because he wanted boys and he had three girls. He thought my sister was going to be a boy that's why he treated her like a boy. I think that as far as in my time period growing up, boys were toughened up, you know, probably would have been military, you know, even if it was only a four year hitch. But you know probably would have been either, either decide in a career and go to college or military and have that, for me feels like to have that initial discipline... And probably would have been, obviously if I went to college I would have stuck it out and got my degree and probably be, you know, CEO of business somewhere, for a couple of important reasons in mind, could have gone on to a couple of different places, but probably being able to have a little bit of a bigger picture of the world 'cause i think that men have a tendency to kind of see the world, you know, for what it is, see the big picture that's going on out there, they have a lot of really great ideas about where they think, you know, how they fit into, and how to make that work. I think that women are a little bit more narrow minded, they, I don't know if it's because of our nurture and nature, you know, we tend to focus on what's here..."

And I sat on the backs of trucks
Making plans of the future for us
And you were right next to me
From what I can remember
And this prison won't hold me forever
And you won't aid this endeavor
And it's all over
But tonight, we fell asleep.

And these parking lots
Were filled with people once
They had dreams just like us
Their lives got busy
And they had more things to worry about

So tell me growing old gets easy
That people become more needy
And fluent in complaining about the things they want
The things they have but it's broken, but it's broken

So let's lay here for a while
I hear the shower in the distance
With some faint piano
Let's listen to our thoughts
Let's turn off the radio

(And) I won't posses you but I want your time
I don't need a guarantee but someone to rely one
